BidShift Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

 

What is BidShift?

 

BidShift is an internet-based scheduling program that centralizes the posting of open shifts across Kindred Hospital, Chicago.

 

Who can use BidShift?

 

Full-time, part-time and per diem employees who occupy one of the job titles listed below are eligible to use BidShift. Management employees are not eligible to use BidShift. Eligible positions include:

 

Patient Care

RN

LPN

CNA

Monitor Tech

Unit Secretary

Wound Care Tech

RT

RT Aide

Mental Health Tech

OR Tech

 

How do I register to use BidShift?

 

To use BidShift, you must register by creating a profile by entering personal demographic information and qualifications. After you submit your profile, your manager will review it. Once approved, your profile will be activated and you will be able to login and begin using BidShift.

 

Can I access BidShift from home?

 

Yes, as long as you can connect and browse the Internet, you can access BidShift from anywhere. Launch your Internet browser and enter khchi.bidshift.com in the address/URL bar. Do not enter "www" in the address.

 

Can I access BidShift from work?

 

Yes, simply go to any designated PC with Internet access and connect to the Intranet. Click on the BidShift icon.

 

Do I need to have an e-mail address to use BidShift?

 

An e-mail address is not required, however it is helpful when you can receive email notifications when shifts are awarded to you. If you do not have an e-mail account, you will be responsible for logging back into BidShift to see if you have been awarded any shifts.

 

Is the information I provide BidShift kept confidential?

 

All information entered is strictly confidential. Only Kindred Hospital managers and agents can view the information you provide. At no time is it made public or available to unauthorized personnel.

 

How is my profile/demographic information on BidShift used?

 

The information related to you is used to determine which departments and types of shifts you can view or request. Certain information is used to contact you about a shift that you requested.

 

Can I request shifts through BidShift if I am not a current Kindred Hospital employee?

 

In order to use BidShift, you must be a Kindred Hospital employee. If you would like to become an employee and use BidShift, please log onto www.kindredhealthcare.com or call the Recruitment Office at 773-279-2505 or yolanda.thomas@kindredhealthcare.com.

 

 

 

 

Can I sign up for shifts in departments other than my home department?

 

Yes, as long as you meet the qualification requirements for the shifts (i.e., your skill set matches the requirements for the department in which you would like to work), and you have already been scheduled for your minimum scheduling commitment in your home department. Shifts requested through BidShift may not conflict with your regularly scheduled department shifts.

 

How soon can I begin requesting shifts?

 

You may begin requesting shifts once your current manager has approved your profile. After your profile has been approved, you will receive an e-mail from BidShift administration notifying you that your account has been activated. The next time you log in you will see a menu from which you can request shifts.

 

How do I request a shift using BidShift?

 

Once you log into BidShift, click on "All Shifts". You can request any shift for which you are qualified by clicking on the shift. You will then be taken to that shift's detail page. Click "Request this Shift".

 

Please note that requesting a shift does not mean that you will work the shift. Your request will be reviewed along with all other requests and the manager will award the shift. If you are awarded the shift, you will be notified on your BidShift main page and via e-mail.

 

Can I retract my request to work a particular shift?

 

Yes. As long as the shift has not yet been awarded, you can retract your request.

 

What if I request a shift and it is awarded to me, but I can no longer work those hours?

 

Once you are awarded a shift you are considered scheduled for that shift. It is important that you are available for all the shifts you request, and that they do not create any conflicts with your regular department's schedule. Remember, all awarded shifts are considered scheduled shifts and are subject to attendance, cancellation, and any other applicable policies. In the event that you cannot work an awarded shift, it is your responsibility to find a replacement. Written approval for change is required by the Nurse Manager, House Supervisor or CCO.

 

Can I sign up for shifts even though I haven't yet worked my regularly scheduled weekly hours?

Yes. As long as you have been scheduled for your minimum required hours in your home department, and the shifts you request don't conflict with your regularly scheduled shifts. You are expected to work all of your scheduled hours.

What happens if I request two shifts with overlapping times and I am awarded one of them?

 

If you have requested 2 shifts that overlap and you are awarded one of those shifts, BidShift will automatically retract your request on the other shift. However, it is important to note that BidShift does not automatically coordinate with your regular schedule. You are responsible for preventing conflicts with your regularly scheduled home department hours and shifts that you request through BidShift.

How do I know whether or not I was awarded a shift?

 

Shifts will be awarded at least 48 hours before the beginning of the shift. If your request for a particular shift is accepted, you will be notified via e-mail provided you entered a valid e-mail address. If you are not awarded a shift, you will not be notified by email, however you can log in and click on "My Shifts" to see the shifts you were not awarded. Once a shift has been awarded, it will be removed from your list of shifts available through BidShift. It is your responsibility to also check BidShift to see if you have been awarded shifts you have requested, and to report to work for those shifts. You can monitor the shifts awarded to you by logging onto the BidShift main page and clicking on the "My Shifts" tab.

 

How will cancellations and floating occur with BidShift?

Cancellations and last minute floating due to patient census fluctuations may still occur and will be subject to the same policies as are in place prior to the use of BidShift.

 

 

 

What should I do if I am awarded a shift?

 

If you are awarded a shift, you are expected to report for work as scheduled. If you have any questions about the shift or department, contact the department manager.

 

Do shifts awarded to me through BidShift affect my employment status or benefits eligibility?

 

No, additional shifts awarded through BidShift will not affect your employment status (full, part-time or per diem), or your benefits eligibility denoted by that status. Only a requested and approved change in hours will affect employment status or benefits eligibility.

 

How do I make changes to my profile?

 

You are able to change your demographic information by logging onto BidShift and clicking on "My Profile." For changes to any other information, including home unit, level of care, and skills, contact your home department manager to discuss what you need changed.

 

Who can I contact if I have questions or problems with BidShift?
If your password does not work or you are unable to access BidShift, contact your unit manager. If you have any questions regarding requesting shifts, eligibility, and rules of BidShift, click on the "Guidelines" or "About BidShift" links located at the bottom of the page.
